‘The X Factor’ UK is coming to America … on Mark Cuban’s network AXS
How is this for news that we certainly did not see coming in the near future? After a decade of airing exclusively on British television, Simon Cowell’s original version of “The X Factor,” which he is returning to judge this year after a three-season absence, is going to be airing in America.
What’s the destination for it? AXS TV, the music-oriented network (found on many of your satellite packages) that used to be known as HDNet, and was founded by “Shark Tank” star / billionaire mastermind Mark Cuban. Episodes of the show will air on Sundays and Mondays at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time starting on August 31, which means that audiences in Britain will still technically get episodes first. Note that British network ITV still hasn’t confirmed a premiere date, but we suspect that the end of the month sounds about right when looking at it through the lens of past seasons.
Speaking in a statement, Cuban had the following to say about snagging the show:
“The X Factor UK is a perfect addition to the AXS TV lineup, as we continue to showcase the best music programming on television … The level of talent that the series has produced is unprecedented, and to have Simon Cowell back as a judge – I’m confident that our audience will embrace these new stars wholeheartedly. I’m proud that AXS TV has the opportunity to be at the forefront of this popular music franchise to showcase talented vocalists.”
While the show’s not going to get the ratings the US version did, this still is a great acquisition for AXS TV, and an opportunity for American viewers. This version of the show was always superior, and host Dermot O’Leary is excellent in all he does.
