‘Game of Thrones’ season 5: George R.R. Martin will not write episode
Well, we officially now know of one significant change for “Game of Thrones” season 5: The author who started it all will not be around to write an episode.
So what will George R.R. Martin be up to instead? The simple answer to that, per his own admission at San Diego Comic-Con, is that he will be in the process of trying to finish his next book The Winds of Winter. Given that the show is just about to catch up with everything that is happening in the book series, we understand that there must be a significant amount of pressure there to get that done. He has already explained that he does not write when traveling or doing conventions, so he needs a significant amount of time to sit at home and work.
Traditionally, Martin chooses to write at least one episode a season and also visit the set annually, but he is changing it up on both regards. Martin last season wrote “The Lion and the Rose,” which was the Purple Wedding that saw King Joffrey turn into a corpse after he was poisoned. It’s certainly possible that George could pick up another episode during the show’s sixth season, but we imagine that most of that will depend on timing.
What is most interesting to us right now is that despite the show being very close now to catching up with the books, still no one is saying much regarding what the plan is when that eventually happens. Our personal opinion is just that they will either delay filming for a few years, or go ahead and film additional seasons when the actors are available, only to then release it a little later. Even though we personally have only recently started diving into the books, we don’t ever want to see a situation where viewers find out about major storylines and changes before the original crowd of readers do. Anything else would be strictly unfair to the show’s lineage.
