’24: Live Another Day’: Does Comic-Con appearance change hopes for renewal?

24 -For fans of “24,” the emotions right now must be mixed. Next week marks the grand finale for “Live Another Day,” which by our estimation is probably the best season of the show since one of the early four.

However, at the same time there is still all sorts of uncertainty about the show’s future. The promo for the finale did not acknowledge it as either a season or a series finale, and this sort of ambiguity  is something that only drives fans more insane. If this persists, they could be in a Jack Bauer sort of frenzy by the end of the summer.

The latest thing making this frenzy even worse is the fact that the show is being brought this year to San Diego Comic-Con for a panel discussion. This will occur in Ballroom 20 on Thursday, July 24 starting at 10:00 a.m. Pacific time, and star Kiefer Sutherland will be there along with executive producer Jon Cassar to discuss the Jack Bauer character and so much more.

One argument that you could make here is that this is just a way for the studio to cover their tracks, to promote the upcoming DVD / Blu-Ray release, and to take advantage of a popular Comic-Con property. Also, it is a nice way to keep options open. Its ratings (which include a 1.5 in the 18-49 demographic for last night’s episode) are not horrendous during the summer by any means. The only obstacle that the show really runs into here is that it probably costs a ton of money to pay Sutherland and make this action-packed show this late in its run.

Still, after this season, we hope that someone out there sees the interest and decides that we really do need a little bit more of Jack Bauer in our lives.
