‘Britain’s Got Talent’ review: Bars & Melody, Light Balance, Lettice Rowbotham perform
Can you believe that we are almost near the end of the “Britain’s Got Talent” performance shows already? Thursday’s was the second-to-last show of its kind we will see, and it was fairly solid. While the results are still predictable, we at least had some people across the board who upped their game to a certain degree.
As always with this show, we’re ranking everyone in order from least-favorite to favorite performance on the night.
9. Kieran & Sarah – This was like dipping your head under a fountain made up entirely of nacho cheese. This was just too silly and camp for us to take it seriously.
8. Allan Turner-Ward – This was like a 1980s cruise ship act, complete with the terribly bright outfits and bad dance moves. Somebody will hire him for a wedding someday.
7. Eva Iglesias – A very solid vocal performance, but to a song in “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” one of the most overdone tracks in singing-show history. Nothing really makes this altogether appealing.
6. Toju – This was at least a half of a good act. He had some bits (Michael Jackson, Popeye) that were great, but then also some duds. We think that for a two-minute set, around 85% of it needs to kill to advance. He was more at around 70%.
5.Pyroterra – We wonder what it has to be like for a group like this. You get almost no screen time before the live show, you get put into the first half of the show, and you almost have to know that you’re going to go home and the judges will criticize you. with all this said, this group really should have done more to ensure that they could not be criticized for anything.
4. Innova Irish Dance Company – Simon Cowell unfortunately was almost perfect in his analysis here. This was a good performance, but it didn’t pop. There was nothing altogether special or memorable about it.
3. Lettice Rowbotham – In closing tonight, we had Lettice. No doubt she can play, but the music selection tonight was so loud and out of the right genre for a violin that we couldn’t even hear half of it properly.
2. Bars & Melody – These two have been internet sensations since their audition, performing on “Ellen” and other shows around the world. This was a great performance, but we do have to admit that the choir was so booming that you could barely hear them. It wasn’t much of a showcase of individual talent as it was a production.
1. Light Balance – We said before the start of this show that this group and Bars & Melody would advance, and this performance validated that. We’re not going to pretend like this act is really original these days, but the choreography and the science behind it were certainly slick.
