‘Britain’s Got Talent’ results: Did Collabro, Patsy May, Lauren and Terrell advance to finale?
The first “Britain’s Got Talent” results show of the season aired Monday, and Simon Cowell wasted no time at all getting someone from his label to appear in Ella Henderson. A year removed from her time on “The X Factor,” she came out here and gave a performance of her lead single “Ghost” that was by and large well-received.
Our take on that? It was a solid number and we like the song, but why keep her standing in the center of the stage? We wanted to see more moving around the stage from her, and a ferocity that signaled the end of a singing-competition Ella, and the beginning for a new version of the talented teenager.
Going into the reveal of the results, it felt to us like magician Darcy Oake and vocal group Collabro were the most-likely contenders to make it into the finale, mostly thanks to the fact that they were fantastic, and also the sort of acts that the British public tends to support. While we would have personally included Jon Clegg over even Darcy, impressionists are traditionally a harder sell to viewers than magicians or singers.
When the results were eventually announced, there were basically zero surprises across the board. Jon, Collabro, and Darcy were of course the three acts voted through to the top, and the vocal group were the ones declared the winner of the night. This show is so obvious sometimes with the edit that it’s not even funny. The act that the show likes best typically goes last, and they typically also end up winning the night. These guys do have a great chance of winning the entire season, depending on what they do in the finale.
This left a much more difficult decision between Darcy and Jon, a comedian and a magician. Like we said, we feel like Jon was better tonight, even if we loved Darcy’s audition more. Britain ultimately chose Darcy, and while we preferred Jon tonight, it’s hard to quibble with it. After all, Jon may have a shot to get in the finale as a wild-card based on how the rest of the week goes.
