‘True Blood’ season 7 notes: Alexander Skarsgard’s movie, Joe Manganiello’s gig

True BloodThe “True Blood” notes are a series of articles with a humble purpose: To give you updates on everything else that some of these actors are up to. This is one of the many good things that comes with starring on a series that only shoots just over half of the year, and also gives a flexible enough schedule for actors to do occasional other gigs even during filming.

Joe Manganiello’s new appearance – One of these actors is none other that Alcide himself in Joe! He will be one of the stars appearing on the annual MTV Movie Awards pre-show Sunday night, which, as previously reported, is going to be hosted by Zendaya and “Teen Wolf” star Tyler Posey. Some of the other actors appearing during this event are Anthony Mackie, Emile Hirsch, Brooklyn Decker and Tony Hale. (Cheers for Hale, though we don’t know how he fits in with the MTV audience at all).

Hopefully, Joe can liven up a pre-show that is typically boring and emphasizes two things way more than it should: Excessive product placement, and tweets from people watching at home. Aren’t we watching so we don’t have to listen to what ordinary people have to say? Just a thought.

Alexander Skarsgard’s new movie – The bad news with the new Yahoo! featurette for “The Giver” is that Alex isn’t a focus of it. But if you are a fan of Eric Northman onscreen or off, this is a film that you should check out. “The Giver” was one of our favorite books in middle school, but it had an intellectual sensibility to it that went far beyond that era. It’ll be interesting to see how those themes of identity and importance carry over to the big screen.

This movie will hit theaters on August 15, and in addition to Alex (playing the father of main character Jonas), the cast also includes the likes of Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Taylor Swift, and Katie Holmes. Basically, we’re confident about everything here other than Swift. This isn’t an attack on her as a star or anything; it’s just the natural reaction to having Academy Award-winning actors next to someone whose primary talent is music and still has just a few major movie credits.

We really, really hope this movie rocks.
