‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Seth Rogen, Aidy Bryant get descriptive on Zac Efron

SNL -How about this for a “Saturday Night Live” first? After being on the show for a few years, Aidy Bryant has finally been handed the opportunity to star in a promo. This is one of the final rites of passage, and you know you’ve “made it” when you get an opportunity for Lorne Michaels to want to feature you. (Now, if only someone will bring back the Worst Lady on An Airplane.)

So how did Aidy do? Great, or at least as great as you can do with these cheesy promos. Most of the writing on these is silly and sketchy at best, and all the gags have to be short in order to accommodate for time. There are a ton of gags in this promo, as well. Some of them are very funny (a description of Zac Efron), some are moderately funny, and then some are not funny at all. None are so hilarious that you will want to watch this more than once.

It’s been a while since Rogen has hosted the show, and since that time, he’s developed even more comedy and improv chops. This is why we expect a very funny show that will hopefully have him working a little more with Aidy. Also, we hope for less singing. We were in the camp of those who liked the Anna Kendrick episode, but there were times when the writers must have been banging their heads against the wall and forgot that she was actually in a movie known as “Up in the Air” in addition to “Pitch Perfect.” (She doesn’t have to sing all the time!)

After this episode, you are going to get a break between new episodes. Sad face … even a bad “SNL” is better than no “SNL” for a while.
