‘Bones’ season 9, episode 17 review: A new squintern dominates forgettable case

Take a look -Monday night’s “Bones” episode had a number of interesting little wrinkles in it, whether you are talking about security checkpoints, repo men, and a new employee at the Jeffersonian in Fuentes. This was an interesting addition to the show: He was just as smart as Brennan, but forced to work under her as a refugee from Cuba. He also really wanted to believe that there was more of a connection there than there really was.

Unfortunately, we just wish that there was a little bit of a stronger episode to surround the character. Most of this story was, to be perfectly honest, a little bit on the boring side. there wasn’t really much that happened, and the case was by-the-numbers. Our favorite moment of the entire ordeal was Booth and Brennan coming up with a cute little way to kiss in the car. The two did debate whether or not they wanted their daughter to have some sort of religious upbringing, and Brennan actually decided that Christine can go to church in order to get the information that she means to make an educated decision on her future.

The highlights were almost entirely around Fuentes, especially the little sit-down at the end between him and Sweets where he claimed that he was going to just try to make things work here for a while. We’re glad that it looks like he will be staying around for a while, mostly because the show really needs to shake up things in this part of the show.

All in all, that is what “Bones” really needs: A jolt, and something to build towards. The Ghost Killer is out there, but for the time being, they are still … ghostly. Grade: C+.
