‘Supernatural’ season 9 spoilers: Meet the leading man for ‘Tribes’ spin-off

What's coming up? -Now that some of the first information is starting to come out about the proposed “Supernatural” spin-off “Tribes,” we’re going to take advantage of the opportunity now to slowly start to share some of the information.

Today, we specifically want to focus on the person who could arguably be the most important person of what looks to be a much more ensemble show than the original (which has only had two regulars the entire series in Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles): Ennis Roth.

According to TVLine, this man (who has a name perfect for starring in some sort of action movie) is a strong-willed guy who is likable, and grew up in the right way thanks to being the son of a cop. In the backdoor pilot later this year, he meets up with Sam and Dean after someone who he is close to is murdered, and it is thanks to that he learns that the entire city of Chicago is run by a select few families … who all can identify as various sorts of monsters. (We’ll get to more of who some of these other monsters are in some other articles coming up.)

The two most-interesting things to us right now about this casting information is that it in a way sets up this story as being somewhat similar to another CW spin-off in “The Originals,” and that producers for “Tribes” are specifically looking for a black actor to take on the Ennis role. This is pretty significant given that The CW, while diverse often when it comes to their supporting characters, very rarely are with their leads. Just take a look at most of the rest of their shows that are currently on the air. You may have Cress Williams, David Ramsey, and Kat Graham, but none of them are the driving force behind their show’s story. Charles Michael Davis of “The Originals” may be the closest one to that.
