‘Glee’ season 5 spoilers: 100th episode director says Cory Monteith’s death not forgotten
While “Glee” has certainly acknowledged the death of Cory Monteith on the show, there have also been some times that the story has developed to the point where Finn is barely even mentioned. Rachel is now busy both with “Funny Girl” and also the band that Kurt has set up, and that has not left her with a ton of time to either think about or process her past.
Well, one thing that we can promise you about the big 100th episode coming up later this year is that Finn will not be forgotten, both in terms of the dialogue and the overall tone of the story. When you consider that we have yet to even see Quinn Fabray process the news of his passing (as she was not in “The Quarterback”), that makes a great deal of sense.
Paris Barclay (a frequent director on the show in addition to being an executive producer on “Sons of Anarchy”) was asked about what we can expect in this episode by Us Weekly while at the DGA Awards recently, and he expressed that Finn’s presence would be deeply felt in some way. Within the process of discussing this, he also mentioned why we have not really seen that much in the way of discussion about Finn at times on the show since the tribute:
“I don’t think it could go much farther without continuing to talk about how that hurts … There is so much feeling there and it affected the Glee family in such a profound way, and you can expect it to be dealt with in the 100th episode. It definitely comes back and is dealt with in a significant way.”
This is a story that we know already is going to be referenced on a variety of different occasions moving forward, including the eventual series finale. After all, the original plan for the end of the show was to feature Cory’s character heavily as Lea Michele’s Rachel was to return to Lima after becoming a big Broadway star.
