‘American Idol XIII’ preview: Jess Meuse, ‘Blue Eyed Lie,’ and Slapout, Alabama

Want to take a look in advance at one of the standout contestants from Wednesday night’s “American Idol XIII” episode? Then allow us to introduce you to Jess Meuse. This is a woman that is from the awesomely-named Slapout, Alabama, and is also notable for another reason: She is a contestant from the south who is something more than the everyday country artist, which is something that we are a fan of always and forever.

As for her performance, it’s pretty rad. Meuse continues the tradition this season of female guitarists and singer-songwriters auditioning, and her take on “Blue Eyed Lie” holds great promise for her … if she advances far in the competition, anyway. The difficult part of this competition for some of the guitarists and the more original contestants is Group Round in Hollywood Week, where almost everything that they’ve done over the course of the season is taken away from them.

At least this is a great start for her, and also a great start for the city of Atlanta, as well. This is a city that has provided some very good auditions over the years, but also a good many that we would really prefer to not remember at all. We’ll have some news tomorrow morning about one person coming back to the Atlanta auditions who you are definitely going to remember if you’ve been a fan of this show since the beginning.
