‘Sherlock’ season 3 premiere (PBS) review: Sherlock Lives, top 5 moments

Sherlock season 3It has been a long two year wait for “Sherlock” season 3 and although viewers in Britain have had a chance to watch the season already, we in American have had to wait a little longer. Finally that wait is over and tonight the premiere is here!

Since we have already written a full review of season 3, episode 1 when it aired in Britain we are going to do things a little bit differently for our  American reviews. We are going to be doing a top five moments from the episode that really made an impact on us. So lets get to it!

1. Theories of Sherlock’s death: Although it was never exactly clear how Sherlock faked his own death (although we are inclined to believe what he told Anderson near the end of the episode) our favorite theory that made us laugh was the idea of Sherlock and Moriarty playing some hilarious gag on Watson and then making out.

2. Watson’s reaction to Sherlock being alive: We know that Watson is a pretty calm guy for the most part and has put up with a lot of you-know-what from Sherlock over the years, but his physical reaction to Sherlock showing up out of the blue to announce that he’s alive right when Watson was going to propose to Mary couldn’t have been better. He was emotional, crushed and we didn’t feel bad at all to see Sherlock get a beating from him.

3. John Watson’s mustache: We loved that Watson was trying out a new look, even if it didn’t look all that great, but everyone’s different reaction to it was worth it’s weight in gold, especially Sherlock’s since it was so ill timed.

4. The addition of Mary: We weren’t sure how Mary was going to fit into Sherlock and Watson’s world, but so far we really like her. It’s always hard when a main character gets a love interest, but she not only works well with Watson, she fits in with Sherlock.

5. Mycroft and Sherlock: There is no love loss between these two and although they try to act like they don’t care about each other, they clearly do. Our favorite moment of this episode was watching the back and forth between Mycroft and Sherlock and that they weren’t afraid to show that Mycroft is actually smarter then Sherlock.
(we’ve never hidden that we are a huge Mycroft fan here at CarterMatt).

Over all we were pretty pleased with the premiere and as much as we do like Mary, we do miss the episodes having a big bad that Sherlock and Watson take on.

What did you think of the premiere of “Sherlock” season 3 and was it worth the two year wait? Leave us a comment and tell us what you think.
