However, my comment was in 2 parts. Firstly, to have the statement that Ireland was not ruled by her corrected. Secondly, to make an observation about how romantic period dramas based on real people can distort history.

Queen Victoria is not Lady Mary.

She had a responsibility which she neglected and she seems to be getting an easy pass with respect to one of the biggest European humanitarian crisis of all time.

This is not simply a made up period drama, this is history, so that needs to be respected. In a few years a million people died in (what was at the time) the richest country in the world. She was the Queen of that country.
