Eddie Murphy steps down as Oscar host — should Billy Crystal jump in?

Last year’s ceremony was a dud.

By now, you may have heard the stunning news — thanks in part to a scandal brought on by Brett Ratner saying a series of offensive comments, he is no longer working on the 2012 Academy Awards. With that in mind, Eddie Murphy has also followed suit in jumping ship from the broadcast.

Is there anyone out there capable of being a replacement? In order to avoid a James Franco / Anne Hathaway fiasco, here are a ew intriguing choices:

-Billy Crystal: He’s the perfect host in many ways, and there’s no doubt some would love to see him back. Of course, we don’t really know if Crystal really wants to do this again.

-Conan O’Brien: Could Coco be interested? His silly humor would suit the show well, and would also draw a younger audience than Crystal.

-Ellen DeGeneres: She wasn’t perfect her first time around, but she has such a fun-loving nature that she would be able to revive the show again.

-Hugh Jackman: He was great the first two times.

-Jimmy Fallon: ABC wouldn’t likely want to support an NBC host, but Jimmy was stellar as the 2010 Emmy host. Plus, we know that Neil Patrick Harris isn’t looking to do the gig.

-No one: It may be a controversial choice, but do we really need a host anymore? Just having a rotating series of presenters could end up working in this modern day, since really the host is only on stage for a small percentage of time.

Who would you want to see host the Oscars?
