Mrs. Carter: You can finally stop talking about when Khloe Kardashian is going to file for divorce from husband Lamar Odom… the time is now.
According to TMZ, this moment happened today when documents were filed for the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star to end her marriage of four years to the NBA basketball player, who has struggled with a variety of different off-the-field issues over the course of the past several years. Her attorney is notably going to be none other than Laura Wasser, the famous divorce lawyer who also represented Kim Kardashian when she filed for divorce from Kris Humphries. (Is there a family discount that goes in here for all of the family divorces?)
Khloe will reportedly cite “irreconcilable differences” (a common claim in most divorces) as the reason their marriage is over, and from there this should be a relatively easy process. The two signed what was seemingly an ironclad prenuptial agreement at the start of the marriage, which keeps all of their assets separate. Neither party is looking for spousal support, and the two had no children together.
Given that both parties each have their own separate funds and careers, none of this should really be a surprise. What is somewhat notable here is the timing. Khloe could have really filed this at any point over the past month given that she and her husband have been on the rocks for a pretty long time now. But, she waited until a Friday, and one of the last ones before Christmas to go along with it. All of this suggests that she really didn’t want her split to be in the celebrity news cycle and this was a very smart way to minimize it. So for as much flak as we often choose to give the Kardashian family for frequently bowing to the spotlight like it is their own personal god, this doesn’t appear to be what is going on here. It feels instead like Khloe genuinely doesn’t want her divorce to be gossiped about for long, and she knows that by the time the holidays are over, someone else will be the story of the week.
