Mrs Carter: Courtney Stodden has become a self appointed spokesperson for relationships with massive age differences, but does anyone really care?
Hollywood has never really followed what is ‘acceptable’ or ‘normal’ and that includes their relationships. Recently we’ve seen a spike in massive age differences in celebrity relationships, just look at Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher or Hugh Hefner and every woman under 30 and now Demi Lovato is getting cozy with Wilmer Valderrama.
Of course there’s also ‘Teen Bride’ Courtney Stodden, who is only famous for the huge difference in age in her relationship with husband Doug Hutchison, and she feels that there is way too heavy a focus on age in relationships and thinks that Demi and Wilmer’s relationship is ‘beautiful. She said;
“I find it beautiful for any couple who find love, regardless of the age differences.”
Stodden also feels that there is no problem with older women pushing age aside when they find the one they love. She said;
“Women feel they’ve leveled the playing field with this cougar epidemic. They feel more empowered with this type of situation, rather than when the older man is dating a younger hot woman. For many years, the older men have gone for the young, hot women, and now it’s turned around and people are more accepting of it.”
While it pains us to agree with Stodden, in most cases an age difference really doesn’t mean anything and in some cases the difference in age is what makes the relationship work in the first place. Age stereo types are just that – stereo types and in 2011 relationships have evolved into something very different leaving many people wanting something different from the norm.
