DreamWorks Animation certainly has to be feeling rather good about themselves — in particular when it comes to their decision to push the release of “Puss in Boots” up a week earlier this year.
After underwhelming a bit with an opening of just over $34 million last weekend, the animated film drew in a whopping $33 million for its second week — a drop of just 3% from its opening frame once the finer details are worked in. This is ultimately the smallest drop ever for a movie that does not include a holiday weekend. (Then again, one of the main reasons for this drop is a massive snowstorm that kept people away from the theaters in the northeast last weekend.)
As for #2, “Tower Heist” pulled in $25 million in its first weekend — but this was below some expectations for the Ben Stiller – Eddie Murphy film. “A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas” failed to match the total of its last movie with a $14 million opening, but it will have a much easier time topping its $20 million budget that “Tower Heist” does its $80 million production cost.
What did you see this weekend.
