2013 AMAs: Nelly, Macklemore’s Trayvon Martin Speech, Lady Gaga on a horse, other highlights

AMAs -During the 2013 American Music Awards, there were a few pretty crazy events that we watched unfold. There was Lady Gaga arriving on the red carpet on a “Horse” that was really two people wearing an elaborate costume, Pitbull performing with Ke$ha, or the sight of One Direction playing singalong.

But what we want to do here is point out some of the most notable moments from the early portion of the broadcast on ABC, which are the moments that will probably have people talking for some time.

1. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis talking Trayvon Martin – In the midst of their acceptance speech, the duo chose to acknowledge the issue of racial profiling in America at a time when George Zimmerman was recently arrested, and they were performing in Florida. This was a bold move, especially since there were few other artists on the night who went political.

2. Nelly reprising “Must Be the Money” – Did you really think that he was just coming on stage and performing “Cruise” again with Florida Georgia Line? He did that, but he also busted out a performance of the classic track that probably made children of the 1990s scream and start dancing around. Seeing the members of One Direction actually turn this into karaoke was almost perfect entertainment.

3. Lady Gaga’s arrival – We mentioned it earlier, but she was on. a. horse. Seriously. This wasn’t her craziest arrival yet, but it was still attention-grabbing.

4. Pitbull’s performance – Remember, it’s okay to watch women shake their butts at record speed in a chorus of suggestive dance moves. However, it’s not okay for Adam Lambert to kiss a man. We just can’t get over the furor of that from a few years ago.
