There are a few rules to live by in this day and age when it comes to monitoring rumors that start up on the internet that someone has passed away:
1. Actually find a source.
2. See if the person is active on social media.
3. If the person supposedly lost their life in a snowboarding accident in Switzerland, it’s probably not true.
While the latter rule may sound specific, it’s the one that tends to happen the most commonly courtesy of Global Associated News — a site notorious at this point for spreading hoaxes. They’ve already done away with the likes of Eddie Murphy and Adam Sandler (multiple times) — and on Friday they targeted former “90210” star Luke Perry.
We’ve already confirmed that Perry is in fact alive and well — so really, there’s no reason for concern here at all. Now, we just have to wonder how many more people are going to fall victim to snowboarding accidents in Switzerland in the near future…
