‘Hart of Dixie’ season 3, episode 5 review: Is George Tucker the right man for Zoe Hart?

Zoe and GeorgeSeason 3 of “Hart of Dixie” has been polarizing this summer now that Zoe has brought her new boyfriend Joel to live in BlueBell with her and their chemistry is more like a brother/sister relationship and makes many fans cringe when they kiss, but is Joel really fitting into the town?

Dash’s blog poll: So there’s a poll on if people think that Joel is right for Zoe and when she learns that it’s only 13% she’s concerned that people don’t like him. What was really weird about this was that Wade admitted to voting “yes” to this poll. This Wade/Joel bromance has a major “ick” factor to it, it’s almost like the Wade/Zoe relationship never happened. Zoe decides to try and raise Joel’s likeability factor so Zoe signs her and Joel up to take out the Christian youth group to go zip-lining, but when he tells her that he’s afraid of heights George ends up getting roped into going with her. Joel decides that he doesn’t want to go, until he learns about George and Zoe’s past feelings for each other. What’s really strange about this is that Joel gets really jealous about George… and is sitting around telling Wade all about it. Why doesn’t he have a problem with Wade who she actually had a relationship with?

Joel decides that he needs to go off into the woods to find Zoe and show her that he can be just as manly as George, but before he gets there, Zoe learns just how deep George’s feelings really ran for her in the past when she hears the song he wrote about her. When Wade drives Joel up to the camp site and he drunkenly zip lines without a harness, Wade tells her how crazy it is that everyone thinks she will end up with George, because he knows that she is still in love with him.

The one good thing that came out of this was that George stopped blaming Zoe for his life being so messed up and instead of hating her, he’s going to move forward… also more people are starting to be on team Joel.

The Belles blow it: Without Lemon as part of the Belles, Cricket is botching everything up, including the flowers for the gazebo’s magazine spread. Lavon asks Lemon to help, and she says yes, but in return she wants Lavon to try and help her prove to everyone that her new international man of mystery, Peter, actually exists. She finds his name and is able to prove that he’s real, but not before Meatball declares his love for her. He chains himself to the gazebo and says that he won’t leave unless he has one last kiss… a kiss that is photographed and makes the gazebo magazine. As for Peter, Lemon decides that she’s not going to contact him and just remember the night they had for what it was.

The George and Lynly connection: So is there hope for these two or is it just over? Just when things are starting to look up for them and George is warming up to the idea, Wade reminds him that Lavon will rip his arms off if he finds out. Lynly says she understands, but isn’t going to give up on him.

We were happy to at least see George and Wade come back into the romantic fold with Zoe again, even if it’s just talking about their feelings present and past. This season has felt almost like Zoe never felt anything for either one of them, like season 1 and 2 never happened. Season 3 feels very forced when it comes to the Zoe Joel story line and the fact that they had to have an episode forcing people to like Joel tells us that the network knew no one would like him for Zoe… and we still don’t. Grade: C-
