Less than one week after a fiery car accident caused IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon to lose his life, the man was put to rest Saturday morning at a ceremony in St. Petersburg, Florida — one that also served as a celebration.
Some of the celebrities who attended the event were fellow drivers Danica Patrick and Dario Franchitti — who was accompanied by his wife Ashley Judd.
Before the service, Wheldon’s wife Susie issued a brief statement about why the ceremony was public — an event that led to thousands of people arriving to show their support:
‘Though we won’t be able to fit everyone inside, I know that Dan would have wanted the community to share in the celebration of his life and to grieve his passing.”
Wheldon will be sorely missed, as a driver along with being a husband and a father.
