There are still a number of details still to come out on what is a breaking story, but it appears as though Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi was taken down in a battle in his hometown of Sirte.
The report first spread courtesy of the head of the National Transitional Council’s military arm, who announced publicly on Al-Jazeera Arabic Thursday. However, sources from North America have been unable to confirm the news just yet.
The Libyan people are nonetheless celebrating in the city of Tripoli, with many cheering, waving flags, or honking car horns on the street. There are cell phone photos floating around of what appears to be Gadhafi’s body on the ground.
Stay tuned — we’ll have more on this developing story.
