We have a couple of Adam Lambert stories to share this week, but let’s start with the one that has a good many people talking — the idea of him returning to the American Music Awards this year for the first time since the much-discussed 2009 performance.
This rumor (which is definitely just that) is coming via a Clevver Music video that you can see below — but outside of that, there’s really nothing else to go on here. We were one of the first people to bring you the news about the “Project Runway” news, and we will find out more about this if something comes up. Ultimately, there are a few reasons why were are skeptical for now:
1. The AMAs have already announced a lineup of performances including the likes of Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, and Nicki Minaj. Unless they’re planning Adam as a surprise, he’s not on this list.
2. While we may have our own opinions of the 2009 show, ABC clearly didn’t like what happened and canceled his “Good Morning America” gig — it would be nice to see them come around and invite him back, but we’re not sure it will happen.
3. While the AMA broadcast is a good platform to launch the single, it may take away from the music to have everyone scrutinizing the 2009 show if Adam is booked again. (Hasn’t the guy been forced to answer enough questions about it?) It’s already been made pretty clear that Adam wants to move on.
For those of you wanting a brief airplay update, “Whataya Want From Me” (per USA Today) is currently sitting at 1,643 spins — while it’s a decline from last week, this is right around where it has been as of late.
