‘The Avengers’: new footage shown at New York Comic-Con

It’s coming soon.

On Saturday, the attendees at New York Comic-Con got an opportunity to check out some new footage for what is slated to be the most-anticipated movie of next summer — “The Avengers.” (Do you want evidence? Just know that the new trailer for the film was downloaded more than 10 million times within its first 24 hours online.)

We can’t post the footage online, but basically it consisted of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow doing her part to convince Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner to join S.H.I.E.L.D. for a mission — but has to find a way to do so without causing his alternate Hulk form to go into overdrive. She ultimately manages to succeed, but there were a few moments that had us excited for a transformation.

As for the panel itself, it appears that Marvel’s hope is to use this film (which will feature Loki as a villain) to help launch the next phase of superhero solo projects (including “Iron Man 3”). Ultimately, an “Avengers 2” should come at some point down the pipeline so long as the characters remain popular.

How excited are you for this film to hit theaters this coming May?
