‘The Great Gatsby’s’ release date pits Leonardo DiCaprio against himself

Will this work?

We have some rather surprising news when it comes to the release date for “The Great Gatsby” — not only does it currently have a Christmas 2012 release date, but it would ultimately force Leonardo DiCaprio into competing against himself if the announces dates do not change (and they very well could, considering how long of a wait we still have).

So what’s the over film coming out at this same time? It is Leonardo’s upcoming Quentin Tarantino movie “Django Unlimited.” Both films could end up being significant Oscar bait for the actor (who has never walked away with a trophy) — one film is a period drama based on one of the most beloved books of all time, while the other is a Western that could see DiCaprio put into a different light altogether.

If both movies do end up coming out on the same day, obviously the hope then is that they will have different enough audiences as to not take away too much money from each other.

Do you think this could ultimately be a disastrous idea to have two Leo films out at once?
