‘American Idol’ champ Scotty McCreery sets record with ‘Clear As Day’

Big news!

Scotty McCreery fans, you definitely have something to be rather excited about at the moment — not only is the “American Idol” season 10 champion’s new album “Clear As Day” #1 on the Billboard 200, it managed to achieve a pair of feats that have never been done before.

First and foremost, Scotty (at age 18) is the youngest man to ever reach the top of the charts with a debut album. (To the surprise of some, Justin Bieber did not originally debut at #1.) In addition to this, Scotty is also the first-ever country act to debut their first album at #1. (This headline is especially surprising.)

“Clear As Day” is the first debut album from an “Idol” alum to receive this honor since season 2 winner Ruben Studdard. The last winner to actually sell more copies of their debut than Scotty in the first week was season 7 champion David Cook.

Overall, just how happy are you for Scotty here — especially in an age where albums do not sell as well as they did in the past? (Lauren Alaina’s debut numbers will be revealed next week — but early projections are that her “Wildflower” will not debut as strongly.)
