William Shatner — President Obama, Captain Kirk comparisons ‘unfair’

Shatner speaks!

It may seem like a bit of a random topic, but it is one that is being broached anyway — whether or not President Barack Obama needs to be a little bit more of his landmark “Star Trek” character of Capt. James T. Kirk, and a little less like Spock.

Speaking in a new interview with CNN, William Shatner (who is currently on a publicity tour to promote his new book) was asked the question as it is a criticism that has been handed down in some publications. His response? That ultimately, it’s not even close to fair to compare the world of fiction to that of reality:

“Mr. Obama has got the onerous burden of obeying the Constitution … [Kirk] was captain of everybody’s fate… he was a dictator … Unless he were to become a dictator, relating Kirk and Obama is unfair.”

Shatner did not end up endorsing any sort of political candidate during the sit-down, but merely said that he appreciates listening to multiple points of view.
