On Sunday, some of the biggest stars in the music world gathered in Cardiff, Wales for a celebration of Michael Jackson’s life — though this tribute concert did not exactly go off without a hitch. The Black Eyed Peas withdrew from the event at the last minute over reports of a possible split within the band, and Jennifer Hudson also backed out just before it happened.
Even with this, we did still have some rather memorable performances — two of which were from “coaches” on ” The Voice.” Christina Aguilera performed one of Michael’s admitted favorite songs in “Smile,” and Cee Lo Green also turned in a number. Some of the other singers who took part in the event included Ne-Yo, British band JLS, and Beyonce via satellite.
Below, you can check out Aguilera’s performance alongside one other special moment — Michael’s three children coming out to thank everyone for attending. The concert drew some controversy courtesy of the Conrad Murray trial still going on in the States, but the members of the Jackson family in attendance said that they wanted to keep this a celebration of the King of Pop’s life, and did not want to wait on outside circumstances.
Are you happy that the tribute concert happened at this time?
