Johnny Depp — the next Dr. Seuss?

Could it work?

We have already seen Johnny Depp channel a number of famous characters for children including Willa Wonka along with “Peter Pan” author J.M. Barrie — could Dr. Seuss be next?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Illumination and Universal are in the process of developing a live-action feature film about the life of this famous children’s author (whose real name is Theodor Geisel, hence the desire for a pseudonym) — and Depp is on board to produce as well as potentially star in the project.

Although it may not seem like it on the surface, this project may be an especially important one for Depp — the fate of “The Lone Ranger” has been in limbo for months courtesy of a budget dispute, and many of his other upcoming projects are all geared largely as adults.

Even though this movie may still be in the earliest of planning stages, do you think Depp could do a magical job bringing the man behind “The Cat in the Hat” to life?
