‘America’s Next Top Model: Guys & Girls’ review: Jeremy, Nina visit Planet Distraction

The latest -America’s Next Top Model” presented us with an entertaining episode Friday night, but also one that we can describe rather easily using just one word: Strange. We had a bizarre challenge to kick things off, an even more bizarre photo shoot that practically screwed the guys, and people acting completely unprofessional to the point where they would have been kicked out in real life if they were working.

The first challenge – What in the world was this all about? You’re selling a line of clothes for women when there are men on the show, one team forgets to include the woman in the shot? Then, you had Phil going completely off the rails and destroying property. We really wanted to like him, but in between this and his weird antics with Jiana, we just can’t. (The producers really let Phil off easy with his score.)

The photo shoot – Nails! Who doesn’t love working with nails? How about all of the guys! This is one of the sillier competitions, given that there is no occasion in which men are going to be asked to do this in their modeling career. Therefore, they were at a pretty big disadvantage here, most of them looked awkward.

The real theme of this shoot was simply distractions. Nina has pretty much fashioned herself as the real-life Britta Perry, constantly trying to save people that she feels have something to offer, but serious flaws holding them back. Chris in her mind is clearly this person that needs her help, but a fight caused them both to do horribly at the shoot.

Meanwhile, Kanani has some sort of paralyzing fear of clowns. We’re not questioning her, but we do think that clowns are like the token hipster, trendy fear for people to have. This did clearly impact her, as she struggled to keep her focus.

The results – Somehow, Chris ended up with a great photo in spite of himself and Nina was helped by the viewers, while Jourdan (shocker!) won best photo and is proving that she is the strongest female model by a mile. Personally, we’re just thrilled that we have not been forced to hear about her “married at 19, divorced at 19” story anymore. With this being a double-elimination, we lost both Jeremy and Kanani … over Phil? Yes. We don’t really see him as being around for long in the competition, but he’s still there, while Kanani collapsed into a mess of tears when she did not advance. She will get a chance to move on in the online show, though, so her journey is not completely over yet.
