2011 Emmy Awards: Charlie Sheen, Jane Lynch, and other show surprises

Quite a bit happened this week.

If you want to check out an article for the 2011 Emmy Award winners, all you have to do is head on over to this link. For now, we are keeping this article all about some of the surprises.

The opening – Host Jane Lynch came out with a glimpse into the “Building of Television,” and we saw all sorts of funny shout-outs to such shows as “Mad Men,” “Glee,” and “Parks and Recreation.” While it wasn’t as great as Jimmy Fallon’s awesome song-and-dance number last year, it was a fun way to get the festivities started. Did it work? Sure. It was not on the same level of brilliance that we saw in 2010. (You can check out the video below.)

Charlie Sheen’s appearance – Really, this is more interesting courtesy of what the actor did not do. Appearing on stage to present the award for Best Actor in a Comedy, he had kind words for everyone on “Two and a Half Men” and wished the cast and crew “the best” moving forward with Ashton Kutcher in the lead role.

The Lonely Island All-Stars – This may be the highlight of the night. Thanks to such performers as Ed Helms, Michael Bolton, and John Stamos, we had Andy Samberg’s comedy group give us some of the highlights from their past year — including the phenomenal ” Captain Jack Sparrow.” (Video via Mediaite.)

Stay tuned — we’ll have more surprises throughout the broadcast.
