‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9 spoilers: A new ‘Goodwin Games’ connection

How I Met Your MotherClearly, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas had fun making “The Goodwin Games,” even though Fox completely disrespected it and dumped it off after the end of the May sweeps. They had already used one actor in Becki Newton extensively on “How I Met Your Mother” before making the show, and now that it is over, they have decided to also bring Melissa Tang on over to their long-running CBS comedy.

The news about Tang’s casting was confirmed on Twitter by the actress herself, where she was seen in a photo with Ellen D. Williams (who plays Patrice). It’s thus easy to make the assumption that her season 9 part will be related to the woman who has long met the ire of Robin, but given the scope of this season and the creative ideas that are in play, we also know better than trying to reach any assumption at all.

Tang does join what is an ever-growing list of notable guest stars, which includes fellow newcomers like Sherri Shepherd and “The Office” alum Ellie Kemper. Meanwhile, Wayne Brady has signed on officially for multiple episodes, and it would be a shock if the final season went by without a return visit from Frances Conroy and Ray Wise. (John Lithgow and Ashley Benson also remain possibilities, and the world would be a much better place were they to appear.) As we get closer and closer to Robin’s actual wedding, we’ll likely hear more on this front.

The “How I Met Your Mother” premiere airs on CBS come Monday, September 23 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, and we’ll of course have some more scoop as it becomes available. If you do want to read more news specifically regarding Kemper’s appearance, don’t worry: You can check that out and then some here.
