Even though Michael Stagliano and Holly Durst won season 2 of Bachelor Pad, the win was bitter sweet for the pair, because of Holly’s engagement announcement to Blake Julian.
Holly has been getting hit with a lot of negative comments for not telling her ex-fiancé Michael about the engagement before appearing on the finale, but she insists that she tried everything she possibly could to get a hold of him.
Durst claims that ABC promised her and Blake that she would be able to tell Michael in private before the show, but says that executives made it impossible for her to tell him as they took his phone away from him and kept them apart until the announcement. Holly said;
“I was really upset. Last night, I called to tell him, but they’d already taken his phone. I was thinking, “Well, at least I will be able to tell him before the show so he isn’t blindsided.” But I wasn’t allowed to speak to him prior to walking out on stage. As soon as I sat down, I whispered that I needed to talk badly and then the bomb was dropped almost immediately. He was blindsided. That was the lowest thing they could have done for ratings.”
Michael says he felt humiliated by the way the engagement was announced, but doesn’t blame Holly or Blake. He said;
“I was caught off guard, humiliated. I know neither Holly nor Blake wanted it to go down like that. I’m now even more thankful for the talk we had two weeks ago, which provided closure I didn’t have before. If we hadn’t had that that, it would have been so much worse tonight. I might have just walked off stage.”
Holly has been very vocal about her anger towards the show and has been tweeting about her feelings about the way the show handled things, saying;
“I’m so angry and upset that I wasn’t able to talk or see Michael before the finale! I called him. They took his phone away. It was a sad situation. michael and I had a long talk and he knew I was moving and that things were serious with blake. This was before the proposal. I’m angry at the way that happened.”
