‘Once Upon a Time in Wonderland’ gets more episodes, will not be ‘American Horror Story’ 2.0

WonderlandAdam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have clearly earned themselves some good favor with the House of Mouse (Disney). How do we know this? They are getting the rare opportunity of getting an extended pickup for “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” without having either a full pilot episode, or any proof at all that this show will succeed in a pretty competitive time slot against “The Big Bang Theory,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “The Vampire Diaries” (which has much of the supernatural love-story angle down pat).

According to Entertainment Weekly, ABC has already made the move to extend this show beyond its originally-conceived order of 13 episodes, and there’s more than that. The producers are creating a story with a specific beginning and end point, and with that, the network was flexible for them to get a little bit more of what they wanted. The ending will be the ending that was designed … for now at least. Just see what Kitsis had to say on the matter:

“We really want to tell the story without having to worry about how to stretch it for five years … The upfront order will be it for the season.”

What is also curious to learn is that the network is not necessarily planning to turn this into an “American Horror Story” sort of anthology show, with each season being in a different world. This means that if the ratings are favorable, the networks would order more of this, featuring the same characters and a new story. This part actually makes us somewhat sad, given the excitement we did have at the thought of seeing something completely new every year to give us insight into every single world.

There’s no confirmed premiere date yet for the spin-off show, but if you do want to read more scoop on the future of “Once Upon a Time” proper, you can do so over at the link here.
