Even though Freddy Mercury, the legendary front man for the band ‘Queen’, passed away on November 24, 1991 after a long battle with AIDS, he and his music has continued to live on in the hearts of thousands of fans worldwide.
One of those fans is ‘California Gurls’ singer Katy Perry who has said that without Freddy she may not have been inspired to be working in the music industry today.
Katy posted a video message to Freddy on what would’ve been his 65th birthday and sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him. She also talked about how even though he is gone, that he still inspires us all. She said;
“Happy 65th birthday Freddie, we love you so much. Even though you’re gone, you’re not really gone – you’ve inspired us all and you inspired me especially. Without you I wouldn’t be making music or doing what I do because you’re lyrics inspired me as a 15 year old girl.”
Perry went on to thank Freddy for his music and for the band ‘Queen’, saying; “Thank you so much for all of your amazing music, for Queen the band, for your whole persona, for your character and personality, which was larger than life. We love you and we’ll never forget you. Live on in all of us.”
Happy Birthday Freddy, you were truly an inspiration to many and you will live on forever in our hearts.
