With the huge hosting disaster the Academy Awards had this year with co-hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco, the producers of the show are looking at bringing a comedian in to host the 84th Oscar show next year.
There has been a lot of buzz around the idea of Eddie Murphy taking on the Oscar hosting gig in 2012 and we could find out if the Academy has chosen Murphy as early as this week.
No names have been officially submitted to the Academy for the job of host, but it’s possible that a decision could be made when Oscar producers Don Mischer and Brett Ratner meet on Tuesday with the Academy’s President Tom Sherak.
Sources say that Ratner has been thinking about Eddie for the hosting job for a while now, which makes a lot of sense since Ratner and Murphy have been pretty close friends since Brett directed Eddie in the upcoming Ben Stiller flick ‘Tower Heist.’
Along with Murphy, there has been buzz around comedian Billy Crystal returning to the Oscar stage to take another run at hosting duties ever since the comedian expressed his interest in the position a few weeks back.
Who would you like to see hosting the Oscars next year? Do you think that awards programs even need a host anymore after seeing the 2011 MTV VMA’s work so well without a host? Leave us a comment and tell us what you think.
