‘Burn Notice’ season 7, episode 3 review: Did Michael have another reunion?

Burn NoticeOne episode after “Burn Notice” aired its landmark 100th episode, we had an hour that was exciting, but in other ways somewhat frustrating. Why? There was pretty much no Michael / Fiona interaction, which to us is always sad following an episode that gave us very little hope in the first place that the two characters would be back together.

The one sign of hope does come in that Fiona seems to be having a rather hard time letting the man go. Instead of spending time with her new boyfriend this week, she helped Michael’s mother deal with a nasty gambling situation involving his late brother. We actually enjoyed the idea behind the story here, since it was a nice example of a dead character still impacting a story, and it’s really not often that you see that happen. Plus, how often is it that we get to see Madeline so empowered? Her final scene was yet another example of the greatness that is Sharon Gless.

As for the primary story this week, the major benefit that came from it was Michael managing to secure his team of Sam and Jesse in the Dominican Republic for at least a little while. The hope was to land in a position where they could really help Michael with his actual mission (taking Adrian Pasdar’s character down a notch), but it didn’t quite go as planned. Shocker! If there is one thing you know about this series right now, it’s that next to nothing ever goes according to plan.

The end of this story did not have the great payoff. Instead, it was merely learning that there is “much more” to the organization in the Dominican Republic than it was first assumed. This is going to be a long journey for the character, and he will probably not be out of the woods anytime soon.
