I like the idea of Laurel as a lawyer “fighting crime with her voice”–she is already a metaphorical Black Canary, in a business suit instead of fishnets and kevlar. But I also would like her kicking ass more. The show has shown she’s already received some training in fighting. And she’s been attacked a lot in season 1, so if she is smart and sensible as we are supposed to be led to believe, she would seek out additional martial arts training. Plus they keep trying to show she’s capable but also keep making her a damsel in distress, leading to contrived scenes like her trying to shoot a bad guy only for her gun to jam. If her becoming Black Canary firmly removes her from ever having to be a damsel needing rescue, then sign her up and pronto. Ollie can prove his love for her, if it lasts, without having to rescue her–hell, let her save him for a change.
