Even though “Glee” season 5 may not start filming for another month and a half, some of the stars from the show still have quite a bit going on. Matthew Morrison, for example, has just released a new album of standards entitled “Where It All Began” under a new label owned by Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, and he is on the road promoting it. Meanwhile, Darren Criss is touring around the country, and some other artists, including Naya Rivera and Lea Michele, are in the process of recording their own music.
So what does Morrison have to say about the often difficult transition from being a television start to recording artist? It’s not always an easy switch for someone to make, and he tells Billboard that it is almost unfair to really make any sort of generalization about one person compared to someone else:
“I think it’s a different experience for anyone. For this album, it’s very symphonic and orchestral, so I’m doing the Symphony Circuit of sorts. So I’m playing with the Boston Pops and the National Symphony Orchestra. I’m standing on a stage with 60 piece orchestras behind me. So it’s a much different experience than Naya and Amber [Riley] will have. Darren’s very live, he’s playing his guitar, he’s been doing that his whole life. He’s a pro. Amber and Naya have been singing their whole lives — I think they’ll be just fine. For them it’s just finding the right music, and it’s been a process for them.”
There’s no word on when any other “Glee” star will have new music coming out, but Naya in particular has been working on a disc for quite a long time now. Some stars from the show already have original music out there include Mark Salling and Damian McGinty, who has not been on the show much since season 3 save for a one-episode return.
