‘Britain’s Got Talent’ review: Jack Carroll, Alice Fredenham, Gabz rule second show

Britain's Got TalentThe second “Britain’s Got Talent” live show definitely brought us an eclectic mix, but we’re not sure that every performance was really worthy of this stage. There were some people who just more or less repeated their auditions, some people took some risks that did not work, and some that should not have been there at all.

With that being said, there were at least a couple of people who could go on and do something pretty big in the final round.

Martin & Marielle – Let’s make it clear that we absolutely love what these two do. The problem with an act that is based on something like this is that once you’ve seen it, you really have seen it all. There were a few new lifts in here, but it was obvious that most of the duo’s strongest moves have already been used.

MckNasty – The biggest problem that we have with MckNasty is just that we never really know just how much of the music he’s responsible for. He’s a very good drummer, but is this something that really translates well to people at home? Even if it is rather brilliant to everyone who is sitting in the audience actually watching the performance live, we are having a hard time seeing just what is so extraordinary about this.

Jack & Cormac – Aww, look at these guys! Well, their friendship is infectious, and they are so likable that it is hard to do anything other than root for them. The only thing that we don’t really like about them, sadly, are their voices. They’re just not ready yet for this stage like many other people their age, but they could get there in a few years.

Modupe – There were some things to like about Modupe’s performance, but it was mostly vacant compared to what she did the first time. Doing another Justin Bieber song made her feel like a tribute act more than an artist, and the pop performance felt like something cheesy that was completely out of her comfort zone. Easily, this one wins the “blowing it” award of the night.

Meat Diva – We predicted that this space was going to be reserved for saying awful things about the group, but here comes the shocking news: We actually rather liked it. This was complete and utter camp, but they actually sounded pretty good too. There was some production, and we personally recommend these two to attend any and all work functions they can. Just imagine them at your office Christmas party!

MD – They are a pretty good dance crew, but if we are being completely honest, it still does not feel as though there is anything present here that is completely new or special. We’ve just seen so much of the routine before in various forms, and nothing here reinvented the wheel or the dance crew.

Alice Fredenham – And now, we come to Alice. The show wasted no time in mentioning that she was a reject on “The Voice” UK, and that this impacted her greatly. There was a little too much effort perhaps put into the facial movements on stage, but there’s no question that she has a super-distinctive voice … though there was a mistake in here and she looked at the end like someone took her stuffed bear away.

Jack Carroll – We all know that Jack is a very funny youngster, but this actually raised the bar on that. There were some very great jokes in here about more than just his disability, and he seemed to genuinely enjoy himself. We admit that we identify with Jack (otherwise known as a younger version of myself), and he would be the recipient of our votes tonight.

Gabz – Finally, we close with Gabz, who chose to do something that was a little bit problematic in performing what was effectively the same song that she auditioned with. That’s a little bit unfair in a sense, given that everyone else has to come up with new material. Then again, it’s hard to deny that this is a catchy tune.
