Mrs. Carter: Does anyone else think that January Jones treats her personal life in the same way that she does “Mad Men”?
Think about it for a second. When it comes to the AMC series, the stars are all under strict gag orders from Lionsgate and creator Matthew Weiner not to share anything about the story at all. This leads to some of the actors choosing to be especially publicity-shy, fearing that they will spill something almost on accident that will have their TV boss frowning down upon them.
When it comes to January, she seems to apply the same element of secrecy to her life away from playing Betty Draper. While it is public knowledge that she has a son named Xander, mostly because the public needed some explanation for her absence from “Mad Men” season 5, she has never chosen to reveal the child’s father. In addition to that, it also sounds as though she has no intention to anytime soon. In an interview with the New York Times, Jones gave a very movie star-like response to the question as to why she keeps the man’s name a secret:
“That’s my son’s business. It’s not the public’s business … Jack Nicholson once told me: ‘You should never give your personal life away, otherwise people will pick you apart. They’ll never believe in your character.’
“Women should have lots of secrets. It’s our right to have secrets. Otherwise, what would we write in our memoirs?”
You could make the argument that Jones not revealing the name could easily cause more speculation over it. There could be more questions as to why she kept the secret for as long as she has.
