‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9 spoilers: Neil Patrick Harris on ‘mother’ reveal

Now that we’ve had a few days to digest the shocking ending to “How I Met Your Mother” season 8, are you feeling more or less excited about it? We imagined that there would be a surprising end regarding the identity of the Mother during the episode, but who in their right mind ever believed that we were going to actually see Cristin Milioti as the future wife of one Ted Mosby in the closing seconds?

There were at least a few people who were in the know on what was going to happen prior to the big reveal, and it of course consisted of the people in the cast. Speaking to Zap2It on the revelation, Neil Patrick Harris said that they’ve known about the mother being revealed during season 8 for a while.  He said:

“The cast was in the know … It was just to make sure we knew and didn’t say anything out of line. We have known for Season 8 they were going to reveal her.”

When it comes to the newly-appointed series regular Milioti, she is someone that Harris is already reasonably familiar with. While he may not have much time to star on Broadway, he is a frequent host of the Tony Awards and is familiar of her work in “Once.” With that, seeing her cross over to the television medium is a thrill for him:

“I am a real big fan of anyone making that transition … It is such an amazing transition to do theater and musical theater to do it with specificity and nuance only bodes well for ‘How I Met Your Mother’.”
