Twitter is quickly taking over as the most popular social networking site due to its ability to provide instant information to users in seconds.
When Beyonce’s baby news hit Twitter, fans were posting so many messages about her pregnancy that she set a new record for the site.
The company says that traffic to the site spiked at 8,868 tweets per second (TPS) at 10:35 p.m. ET on Sunday which was when Beyonce stopped at the front of the MTV VMA stage and rubbed her baby belly.
This beat out the final seconds of the Women’s World Cup (7,196 TPS) and William and Kate’s wedding (3,966 TPS).
The 2011 MTV VMA’s pulled in a whopping 12.4 million viewers this year making it the biggest audience in the history of the network.
Guess Adam Levine’s little Twitter protest against the show didn’t do much to discourage viewers from tuning in.
