In defense for Kate’s character, maybe she has her misgivings with regards to Richard being Mr. Right. He hasn’t been all that and a bag of potato chips too. Is he as affectionate as Kate would like him to be? I got the feeling he was happy with the status quo in their relationship when Kate wanted more, something other than what she was getting from him.
Maybe it is Kate who should be entertaining thoughts about “moving on”. And not Richard as Meredith suggests.
However, are they really right for each other? Why would they flaunt their romantic involvements in front or each other in the first place? What perverse message is in their doing this to one another? Isn’t this being insensitive to the other person and a slap in the face. As if to say,
“See I don’t need you in my life. I can find my dalliances with others to while away my time — my life.”
And if they do these things to intentionally make the other jealous, isn’t this being childish? What kind of caring and loving relationship would come from two who like to taunt each other as they’ve done in the past?
Kate should move on, they need the break from each other to sort things out. Maybe Kate will realize she has lost her edge without having Richard around. Maybe their bond isn’t in the form of marriage but in solving murder mysteries together.
Still, it’s hard to see genius at work when it comes to solving mysteries when they seem to have a hard time putting one foot in front of the other in daily matters; handling personal relationships.
But we all fall short in this regard, don’t we. So then why do we expect more from them. Simply said, we want them to be happily together and in love. Perhaps it is our vicarious thrill and wish we have for ourselves — to find happiness and love.

Castle should dump Kate and move on. She’s too much trouble and too fickle and shallow to make a relationship work. How could she not know if her feelings for Rick ” are real ” ? Hello ! This is ridiculous. Where has she been for the last 5 years.

Move on Castle, she’s not worth it.
