‘Homeland’ season 3 spoilers: What will Carrie deal with away from Brody?

Claire DanesWhen it comes to the upcoming third season of “Homeland,” we know already that there is going to be somewhat of a shift when it comes to storytelling. Is Nicholas Brody still out there? Definitely, and we are sure that Damian Lewis’ character will find a way to come roaring back at some point before the season comes to an end.

However, Carrie, Saul, and what remains of the CIA is going to be dealing with much more than just this storyline when the show returns on September 29. Speaking recently (per Deadline), Showtime boss David Nevins teased that the primary plot for the new season “will deal with the aftermath of a major bombing event and will touch on many things you watch on CNN and Twitter.”

When it comes just to being culturally and socially relevant, this story feels already like it is a little ahead of the curve. “The Newsroom” is probably the only other show on TV that we’ve seen use this sort of technology heavily in a narrative, and we already know that this series has a reputation for being rather polarizing. “Homeland,” meanwhile, has an opportunity to do something that is very bold here, while hopefully immersing Carrie into a complicated-enough world that she really does not find herself thinking very much about Brody at all.

Sadly, this synopsis of the season is still very vague, and we will have to hope for some more details in the weeks and months ahead.

What do you think of the idea behind “Homeland’s” new season, or are you too focused on Carrie and Brody’s story right now to care? If you want to see what character is no longer going to be a series regular on “Homeland,” you can do so over here.
