‘Game of Thrones’ season 3: Reflection on Jaime, Daenerys, and Mormont’s [spoiler]

Emilia ClarkeThere are some pretty big stunners that happen on “Game of Thrones” on a near-weekly basis, but most of them still pale in comparison to what happened with Danaerys at the end of this past new episode. In conquering the slavers of Astapor with the help of her newly-acquired army, she proved herself to be a major threat in the world of the show for the first time. As show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss say in their new “inside the episode” video below, this may be the first time that people really start to take notice of what she is doing.

Watching the transformation of Emilia Clarke’s character is made even more incredible in that she is in some ways a real vigilante: bad people have wronged her family, and she’s looking to make things right at whatever the cost. Much like a hero would in any comic book, many of her acts are made with benevolent intent (such as allowing the Unsullied to protect her as free men), but she is willing at times to use malevolent action (killing) as a means to a better end.

Benioff and Weiss also talk about a pair of other key events in the video below.  The death of Mormont in the Night’s Watch, and also Jaime Lannister having to face the world in a completely different position than he had a few episodes ago. The creators say that he could have at one point taken out some of the Bolton men as if they were children, but now he is basically helpless and needs to find a new way to survive beyond him physical capabilities.
