If you have been a fan of TeenNick’s “The 90’s Are All That” programming block (and how can you not be?), we have some more good news for all lovers of nostalgia out there — the network is now plugging in a few more favorites to the schedule (which airs nightly from midnight until 2:00 a.m. Eastern time).
Beginning on September 5, the network will reportedly replace “Clarissa Explains It All” and “Doug” in their lineup with arguably two of their most-popular “Nicktoons” of all time — “Hey Arnold!” and “Rocko’s Modern Life.”
The inclusion of “Arnold” here is especially a great move, since the show really is one of the few cartoons out there that really manages to achieve the feeling of being a kid in a big city — from the eclectic characters (Ernie Potts and Pigeon Man) to the constant dreams and feelings of unrequited love. It also doesn’t just rely on cheap laughs or cultural fads, and thus makes it more timeless than just about any other show out there. (The only negative here is that the show went a bit off the rails at the end thanks to a feature film, and we never really got to see a proper finale.)
As for “Rocko’s Modern Life,” this was a show that was never as much about the story. It was wacky, gross, and often contained adult humor that we are still shocked somehow made it onto a children’s network. (Remember the name of the chicken joint that Heifer loved so much?)
While we can all give “thanks” to TeenNick for bringing back a certain part of our childhood, we have to ask — what shows do you want to see come to this block next?
