If you were wondering why Simon Cowell looked slightly less excited during his final year on “American Idol” in 2010, it’s because he really was slightly less excited to be there than he was in some of his earlier years on board the reality juggernaut.
Speaking as a part of his new interview with GQ, here is what Cowell (whose new show in “The X Factor” is set to premiere on September 21) had to say about his time on the program:
“I was bored. But at the same time I had a deal with Fox, and you’ve got to do what you’ve been paid to do.
“…There were times I used to wake up and I knew it was an audition day, and it was the same feelings I used to get Sunday nights at school. I used to wake up and think, I just wish I could do what I used to do—put a cup of tea on my head and pretend I’d got a fever.”
Cowell also claims in the interview that he plans on actually donating the vast majority of the money he makes over the course of his life to various charities, as he does not believe in the idea of giving one’s entire fortune to someone else. (He also says he has no desire to have children.)
Do you think the people at “Idol” may end up resenting Simon for these comments?
