‘American Idol’ top 8 preview: Why Lazaro Arbos, Angie Miller need to rock Motown
So who is in danger on “American Idol” Wednesday night? It’s a complicated question, since there are so many different ways of looking at it. If you were to judge the show based largely on past results, then you would assume that Devin Velez will be in trouble. (He probably still will be.) Meanwhile, you would also assume that Amber Holcomb’s fan base would respond following her first appearance in the bottom three.
But who really needs to step it up now during Motown Week? That is really the focus of this particular article more than anything else. There are three artists who we really feel need a good performance here more than anyone else, even if the goal for each one of them may be different.
Lazaro Arbos – For Lazaro, he’s probably spent up most of his good will for being an inspirational performance. Last week he won big despite having a weak performance that included Jimmy Iovine more or less calling him out, and he needs to prove now that he can bounce back. One more off night, and he’ll likely be gone within the next two weeks.
Angie Miller – Angie’s not in any danger of going home, but what she is at right now is an impasse. Candice Glover and Kree Harrison have in our mind surpassed her as of late when it comes to song choice, even though all three of them all have stellar voices. She needs to have a special performance this week that will get people talking about her again, since she otherwise runs the risk of losing what was at one point a guaranteed spot in the top three.
Burnell Taylor – Now, we turn to the only hope that the men really have. Like Angie, Burnell needs to mix things up … and he also needs a big moment. At the moment, the highest we see him possibly going this season is 3rd place, and this is the time where he needs to step it up if he wants to change that.
