‘The Muppet Show’ theme song tackled by OK Go, hype for 2011 movie rises

Coming soon!

If you love the Muppets, then it is pretty hard not to be a little bit excited about The Green Album. The disc officially hit stores on Tuesday, and it contains a number of classic songs by the Jim Henson gang recreated by such artists as The Fray, Weezer, and Amy Lee of Evanescence.

However, there’s no question that next to “The Rainbow Connection,” the most famous Muppet song of all is the theme from the classic “Muppet Show” TV series. With that, OK Go (known for their quirky music videos including there “Here It Goes Again” creation with treadmills) has created a new video for the theme — complete with Swedish Chefs, a Kermit the Frog cameo, and the band members waking up surrounding by Rowlf and other assorted puppies. It’s fun, cheeky, and the best use of Muppets in a music video since Weezer tackled the subject in “Keep Fishing” several years ago.

This video (and the album in general) is a clever way for Disney to increase excitement for their upcoming big-screen revival of the franchise, which stars Jason Segel and is set to debut in theaters on November 23. (The movie was discussed at length at Disney’s D23 Expo over the weekend.)

Does this video somehow make you even more excited about the movie?
